The publicity secretaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South West states have blasted Governor Ayodele Fayose for his questionable conduct and objection to the $2bn China loan to Nigeria.
The Punch reports that the criticism was contained in a statement signed by the APC spokesmen Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya (Ondo), Taiwo Olatunbosun (Ekiti), Sola Lawal (Ogun), Joe Igbokwe (Lagos) and Morakinyo Akintola (Osun).
Comparing Fayose’s behavior before and after he assumed office for the second term, the party’s spokesmen concluded that the governor ‘completely lost decorum’.
“We have observed that Fayose’s public conducts suggest that he has a disease of the mind and mental crisis that need a great assay of science and spiritual intervention to save him before he becomes dangerous to the society.”
“His thoughts and emotions have been so impaired that he has completely lost decorum and conduct expected of a man that can safely live in peace with other people in a sane society where the law works,” they said.
Further in its statement, the spokesmen listed instances where Fayose had displayed questionable conducts.
“The governor went to the House of Assembly with the gavel to conduct a voice vote to pass the 2016 budget.
“He sits on the road median treating official files and goes to the market personally carting away traders’ tables and chairs, including their wares.
“The last was his embarrassing and illegal communication with the Chinese authority urging President XI Jinping to refuse financial assistance to Nigeria to enable the country address her economic challenges.
“Also in China, he mounted a rostrum at a train station addressing travellers in tattered clothings and posted his photograph on the Internet, claiming that he was addressing investors in China even when there was no federal government’s approval that he ought to seek before a state can embark on such diplomatic trip.
“Besides, Fayose’s intervention on the nation’s appropriation matter is an exclusive function of the National Assembly,” the statement read in part.
The spokesmen concluded that Fayose needed help and urged the Yoruba monarchs to pray for the governor to save him from self-destruction.
“Governor Fayose is one of our sons. He needs help. We want him to succeed as an individual and as the governor of Ekiti state (The Land of Honour). Therefore, we cannot continue to watch him drag the revered name of Yoruba in the mud in the name of government’s criticism. He’s gradually stepping beyond his bounds.
“This is the essence of our appeal to all Yoruba Obas and religious leaders to pray fervently for and on behalf of Fayose to regain his senses because, an injury to one, we believe is an injury to all,” they said.
In a swift reaction, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) issued a statement by its state publicity secretary, Jackson Adebayo, Vanguard reports.
“We in PDP believe that any serious party publicity officer should be image maker not using foul language on opponent unlike these nincompoops calling themselves image makers.
“As far as we are concerned, Governor Fayose is doing what any right thinking person with love of Nigeria at heart should do,” the spokesman said.
According to the party, it is embarrassing and laughable for the APC’s publicity secretaries “to turn themselves to quack doctors and voodoo analysts on the governor of Ekiti state in determining his heath status even at the risk of committing great level of libel and slander".
