Olisa Metuh Willing To Return N400m He Collected From Dasuki To FG – Lawyer

Onyechi Ikpeazu, a counsel to the embattled former national publicity secretary of, PDP, Olisa Metuh has said his client is willing to return the N400m he allegedly received from the former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, shortly after his client lost an appeal to stop his trial.

Now There Is No Money To Run Government – Amaechi

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi on Tuesday appealed to Nigerians to be patient and give the administration more time to achieve its objectives.


Making the appeal while answering questions at the forum of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Amaechi said:


“We encountered challenges; were we expecting to encounter those challenges? yes; did we think that we will meet the quantum or volume of those challenges?


“We didn’t anticipate that things were this bad. We thought you go to government and there would be money for you to run government and others.


“Now you have the situation where there is no money to run government. I hate to use the word difficult; I hate to use the word impossible but we met things close to difficult and impossibility.


“That is why Nigerians are impatient; they want to see results and for them, change is not about change in structure, it is about change in their pocket.



“Because their pocket is getting dried and they wanted us to put some more resources in their pocket.


“Because of the structural changes that we want to put in place is not getting all that they want to get.


“ What I usually say to people is that we beg you to give us time; we will achieve our objective if you give us time and we will both thank God for that opportunity.’’
He gave an assurance that money recovered from the ongoing corruption fight, would be used to provide infrastructure.


According to him, the government has started paying contractors not appointed by the current administration, noting that such action represents service delivery to the people.

19-year-old Lady Gives Birth to Heaviest Baby in the World…See the Baby Girls’s Amazing Weight (Photos)

A young lady who is only just a teenager has given birth to the heaviest baby in the world with an amazing weight and size.

The young mother identified as Nandini has given birth to a baby girl weighing a whopping 15lbs – the heaviest girl ever born in the world.

19-year-old Nandini, who goes only by her first name, welcomed her first child, a daughter, by caesarean section on Monday evening at a government-run hospital in Hassan in southern state Karnataka.

The average baby is born weighing 7.5lbs – making Nadini’s newborn female twice the size.

Dr Venkatesh Raju, the local health officer, said:“In my 25 years of experience, I had never seen such a big baby. She is a miracle.

 

“I believe she is not only the heaviest baby born in India but the heaviest baby girl ever born in the world.”

The yet-to-be named baby left everyone including her mother and medics in shock due her sheer size.

Nandini, who herself weighs 94 kg and stands 5’9 tall, had a smooth pregnancy throughout but was unaware she was about to give birth to a big baby.

While the mother’s size hinted at high sugar levels, doctors confirmed that she is not diabetic which usually causes obesity in new-born infants.

The baby is being kept at the neonatal intensive care unit and doctors are monitoring her developments before they discharge her in few days.

Dr Poornima Manu, gynaecologist who delivered the baby said: “She came as a big surprise for all of us. The surgery took place for nearly half an hour and it was free of any risk. She is really big and beautiful.

 

“She does not have any health issues like irregular sugar levels or thyroid and is breathing well. We were initially concerned about her sugar levels but that is normal. The mother had made regular visits for check-ups at the hospital and never showed signs of gestational diabetes or thyroid disorders.

 

“Both the mother and the child are doing fine and we will discharge them once we are confident of the baby’s health.”

Dr Venkatesh Raju added: “I had personally gone to see her. She is a beautiful gift of God. I am happy that she is doing well.”

Nandini and her husband Arun married two years ago and were excited about welcoming their first child.

Now that she is here, both the overjoyed parents are counting down the days when they can bring her home.

In November last year, another Indian woman Firdous Khatun had given birth to the a baby boy weighing 14.77 lbs.

He was the heaviest baby born in the country but with Nandini’s baby, the title will now shift to her.

According to a NET report, Toyin Aimakhu’s estranged husband, Niyi Johnson is having a romantic affair with fast-rising actress cum producer, Seyi Edun.

EFCC Declares Sen. Omisore Wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, declared a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore wanted, in connection with alleged N700 million paid to a company in which he has interest by the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA).

A statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the anti-graft commission, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said: “The EFCC today declared a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore wanted.

The former senator is wanted in connection with a case of receiving and misappropriating the sum of over N700, 000,000.00 from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) between June and November, 2014.

“Omisore has been elusive and refused to report to the Commission after invitation was extended to him on April 7, 2016 requesting him “to come and make clarification on the ongoing investigation”.

“Instead of responding to the Commission’s investigation Omisore had approached the Federal Capital Territory High Court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights.

“Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf consequently ordered that Omisore should only be arrested through a due and legal process.

“The EFCC thereafter obtained a warrant to effect the arrest of the politician,” the EFCC said.

As part of the N700 million probe, the EFCC had invited Omisore for interrogation in connection with a N442, 600,000 security contract which was awarded to a firm linked to him by the ex-NSA.

The gubernatorial aspirant in Osun State was a director of the company as at the time of the award of the contract and a payment of N370 million out of the project sum was effected, part of which was allegedly paid into the account of the ex-deputy governor.

But they were caught in the act by cinema staff who immediately confronted the pair for engaging in sexual activity at the movie theatre in Manchester city centre.

However, the angry man who refused to be stopped, punched a female worker in the face at around 4.30pm on Thursday, May 19.

The police were called to arrest the horny duo on suspicion of outraging public decency.

The pair remain in police custody.

Court Faults Olisa Metuh's Medical Report.

Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, May 24, questioned the credibility of a medical report by the National Hospital, Abuja, which placed the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, on bed rest.


On why Metuh was not present at the continuation of his trial on Tuesday, his counsel, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), told the presiding judge, Justice Okon Abang that his client is on bed rest at the National Hospital, Abuja, on doctor's orders.


Ikpeazu then presented to the judge a medical report signed by a neurosurgeon consultant at the National Hospital, Dr. O.O Olaleye, confirming that Metuh is on a bed rest at the hospital.


On this basis, the lawyer sought an adjournment of the case contending that the situation in section 352(4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, in which the judge is allowed to proceed with a criminal trial without the defendant present in court, had not arisen.


The provision of the law provides that the court may proceed with a criminal trial if a defendant already granted bail is absent from court in violation of a court order or in the absence of any good reason for the absence of the defendant.


But while acknowledging that Metuh indeed has a good reason to be absent from court, Justice Abang said that the medical report failed to indicate the period which the rest would last, which, he said, cast a shadow of doubt on its credibility.


He ruled: "I have considered section 352(4) and 266(a) and (b) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act cited by counsel.


“I think the first defendant has good reason to be absent from court today.
“The medical report is not really helpful to the court as to the period he will be on the bed rest.


“As an expert, the medical doctor ought to have provided the period in his medical report which the first defendant would have had an adequate and sufficient bed rest.


“I have been wondering if this omission was in good or bad faith because it is expected of a medical doctor to have stated the period of the bed rest. It cannot be hanging in the air.”


Justice Abang however ruled that “since the medical report is not sufficient the court is enjoined to be guided by section 396(5) of ACJ act.


“In the light of this, this matter is adjourned till May 30 without fail for the continuation of the evidence-in-chief of the fifth defence witness.”
Metuh is facing a seven-count charge for alleged diversion of funds meant for the purchase of arms during the last administration.

Emir Sanusi: Ban Child Brides, Under-18 Marriage

Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, has advocated a ban on marriage of women below 18 years, saying most of the women suffering from reproductive health challenges were products of such marriages.


The emir, who spoke at a workshop organised by the Northern Islamic Forum in Kano on Tuesday, said time had come when the Muslim community should live by the reality of economic recession and consequences of early marriage.


He said the era when people gave out their daughters in marriage at early ages and asked the husbands to wait till they were ripe was nothing but a deception.


According to Mr. Sanusi, that strategy no longer worked as it had led to cases of divorce and other ugly situations.


The emir recounted that in the past the rich and the poor married four wives and bore between 30 and 40 children because the economy was not only buoyant but also because people were not relying on government for sustenance.


He said though the harsh economic realities now make it impossible for people to feed twice a day these days, “unfortunately our people do not change and somebody with virtually nothing still give birth to 20 or 30 children and this must stop”.


Mr. Sanusi said there was a need to peg the marriage age now because of the challenges early marriage was posing.


According to him, the marriage age in Egypt at present was 18 while that of Malaysia and Morocco were 19 and 17 respectively, asking “why not we here urgently call for pegging of marriage ages within Muslim Umma in Nigeria?”


He argued that since Nigeria Muslims also practice the Malikiys School of thought as these countries, “we should follow suit and peg our own marriage ages for our own good”.


Mr. Sanusi called on the relevant authorities to create a law that would punish anybody that gave birth to children and allowed them to suffer.


According to him, most of those neglected children not only turned victims of social vices but also engage in terrorism.

Petrol price: NLC, FG resume negotiations today.

The NLC and the federal government will commence negotiation today, May 25, after the stalemate in the talks between both parties occasioned by the nationwide strike embarked upon by labour unions.

In a statement released to the media on Tuesday, May 24, the director in charge of press at the ministry of labour and employment, Samuel Olowookere, said the meeting would hold by 2pm at the conference hall of Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.


The NLC had called off the indefinite strike it embarked upon last week after the intervention of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The government had through the minister of labour and employment, Dr Chris Ngige, vowed not to engage the NLC in any talks until the strike is called off.

Talks with the NLC had been delayed due to the fact that the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) had served a week-old strike notice on the government.


PENGASSAN planned stirke was however suspended following the intervention of Ngige and his counterpart in the ministry of petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu.


According to Olowookere’s statement, Kachikwu briefed the meeting on the re-occurring issue of the Joint Venture Cash Call, the arrears of which had not been paid to the Joint Venture Partners which made the oil firms to issue a threat to lay off workers as a result of shortage of cash recently.


The minister told the gathering that the petroleum ministry was
“restructuring the operational modalities of the Joint Venture Cash Call especially in view of the low oil prices.”
He assured the union, the JVCC partners and other stakeholders in the industry of some positive results during the next meeting scheduled for June.


His words: “We all recall that this committee was headed by the late Hon. Min. of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. James Ocholi, but in view of the importance and the urgency of the committee, I will assume its full leadership in June to accelerate and bring its assignment to fruitful completion, part of which is to pass some oil-labour regulations into laws for the Petroleum Industry Bill.”
