Breaking: 4 Companies Pleaded Guilty To Money Laundering For Ex-President Jonathan’s Aide
Four companies, Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited; Seagate Property Development & Investment Co. Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited and Development Company Limited have pleaded guilty to laundering the sum of $15, 591,700 million for Waripamo Owei-Didafa, an Aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
They were all charged by the EFCC alongside the former aide to former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Jonathan, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, a lawyer, Amajuoyi Azubuike Briggs & a banker, Demola Bolodeoku.
Meanwhile the other accused have all pleaded not guilty to a 15 count amended charge.
The cash is reportedly among the same money former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan claimed belong to her. It would be recalled that she filed ownership of the money seeking a fundamental rights enforcement suit on the money last week.
Mrs Jonathan had prayed to the court among other things to compel the EFCC to immediately remove the ‘No Debit Order’ placed on the accounts where the monies are deposited.

The
Nigerian rapper who has released released a studio album every year
since his debut in 2011, is working on maintaining his figures and
keeping his momentum going, by dropping a studio album in 2016.
The new album will be released in December, as songs on the album have already been recorded. It will feature hit song ‘Who you epp’, along with other singles. No official title, artwork, and tracklist has been released.
This will be Olamide’s 7 album. In 2011, he launched his career with “Rapsodi”, and went further to release a string of albums every year including “YBNL” (2012), “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” (2013), “Street OT” (2014), “2 Kings” (joint album with Phyno, 2015), and “Eyan Mayweather” (2015).
2016 has been a big year for the rapper. Under his leadership and guidance, his record label, YBNL, has released an album (“YAGI”) for rapper Lil Kesh, who have subsequently left the company, to found his personal imprint.
It is currently still promoting Adekunle Gold’s “Gold” album. He has also began work on another of his signed rappers, Chinko Ekun, who is releasing singles.
Olamide recently said he will never pay money to have an international collaboration.
Speaking with HipTV, the ‘Shakiti bobo’ rapper made it quite clear that he won’t go down the route of parting away with cash for an international collaboration.
The rapper is of the belief that if he puts in the right amount of work, together with the grace of God, his music will speak for him and take him so far, giving him the deserved international recognition.
He made reference to Fela Kuti who didn’t have to do any international collaboration to penetrate the international market.
“Fela no do any international collaboration before they recognise Fela for international market,” the rapper said.
The ‘baddo’ rapper attributes the street as what makes him tick as an artist “We rep the streets and the street is the majority”, he said.

Resign now, PDP tells Buhari
The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to leave office immediately.
But before quitting, the former ruling
party asked the President to return the country to how he met it when he
assumed office on May 29, 2015.
The spokesperson and a member of the
party’s National Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said this in a
statement he signed in Abuja on Wednesday.
The former minister of state for works said his party was not happy with the state of affairs in the country.
He specifically mentioned the statement credited to the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, that, “recession is a word.”
Adeyeye said, “Is this statement as a
result of ignorance, lack of patriotism or in-line with President
Buhari’s comment that his ministers are noise makers?
“For the record, recession is
characterised as a period of negative economic growth for two
consecutive quarters, given rise to high rate of unemployment, fall in
output, increase in government borrowing, etc.
“Following this understanding, Nigeria’s
economy is already near depression. The crass ineptitude and
lukewarm-attitude of this All Progressives Congress government is no
longer tolerable, and therefore, we are calling on President Buhari and
his team to return Nigeria to its state of booming economy before they
assumed office in May, 2015, and then quit immediately to allow other
capable leaders revive our ailing economy.”
Adeyeye said about three airlines, local
and international, and some banks had allegedly suspended operations
and sent their members of staff on an indefinite leave due to the poor
state of Nigeria’s economy.
He said Nigerians were aware that the
PDP government invested heavily in most of the nation’s airports, an
action he said resulted to alleged ‘facelift’ and improved operations
through remodelling, construction of new airports, refurbishing and
equipping of the local and international airports to meet the best
practices in the aviation industry.
He said the APC’s administration had
frittered away all the good policies and programmes which he claimed the
PDP put in place, thereby bringing down the aviation sector in the
country amongst other catastrophes he said the new leadership had
caused.
He said the President should sit down to work instead of constantly blaming past governments at all time.
He said, “What Nigerians want from this
administration are positive results and not resorting to throwing
tantrums on the PDP at every given opportunity.
“Our call for the President to return the country to how he met it in 2015 is justified on the following grounds.
“In 2015 when the President came to
power, a bag of rice was selling at N7,000, but now, it is above
N20,000; a ‘mudu’ of beans was N150 then and now, it is N500; one US
dollar was then trading for N197 but now it is over N400.
“Also, a litre of fuel was N87 but now
is N145; cost of transportation and other services had skyrocketed.
Given our observations since the inception of this government, they have
nothing to offer and as such, quitting will be a solution because
nobody can give what he/she does not have. The APC has failed.”
Adeyeye called on Nigerians to recall
President Buhari’s purported “body language” at the beginning of his
administration and reiterated that governance “is a serious business
and not about someone’s body language’ and de-marketing strategies of
Mr. President while ‘globetrotting’.
“When this government came to power in
May 2015 riding on the achievements of the previous PDP administration,
President Buhari’s handlers and his party, the APC, claimed it was his
‘body language’ that brought some positive changes the country was
witnessing at that time.
“So, we want to know what are the results of the so-called ‘body language’?”
He concluded that the earlier the
President and his team quit, the better for the country, saying “there
is no better time than now to make this call for the President to return
the country to how he met it and quit.
“He can even quit right away for a more experienced team to take over.”
Adeyeye appealed to members of his party
and other well-meaning Nigerians to keep praying to God to intervene so
that the country could quickly recover from the ailing economy.
The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria,
Mr. Osita Okechukwu, who was until his appointment, the South-East
Zonal spokesman for the APC, has dismissed the PDP’s call for Buhari’s
resignation.
Okechukwu said the PDP was simply trying to make Nigerians forget the 16 years of its maladministration.
He said, “On May 13, 2010, the Jonathan
administration announced the contract award of three refineries which he
called the greenfield refinery. One was to be located in Bayelsa, one
in Kogi and one in Lagos, if those refineries were constructed, the
billions of naira we are losing through vandalism of our pipelines would
not be the order of the day.
“If his wife, Patience, was wise enough
to use the money she used to build a hotel in Yenagoa for the refinery,
we wouldn’t have been where we are today.
“The Nigerian people know where the rain
started beating us. As the Petroleum Task Force chairman, Buhari, with
the meagre resources at his disposal, was able to build more kilometres
of roads than the PDP did in 16 years, even though they had more money.
“Are they saying Nigeria should return
to the years where Boko Haram held all of us to ransom and the looting
of the public treasury was the order of the day?”

World’s oldest man turns 113
The world’s oldest man turned 113 on
Thursday and the Holocaust survivor living in Israel readied for the Bar
Mitzvah he was denied a century ago, his family said.
Yisrael Kristal, an observant Jew from
Zarnow in what is now Poland and currently living in the port city of
Haifa, was born on September 15, 1903, three months before the Wright
brothers’ first successful powered airplane flight.
Guinness World Records in March recognised him as the world’s oldest man.
While he turned 113 on Thursday under
the Gregorian calendar, his family will celebrate the birthday at the
end of September according to the Hebrew calendar, his daughter Shula
Koperstoch told AFP.
The festivities will include a Bar Mitzvah that will come 100 years late.
The Bar Mitzvah is one of the most important ceremonies in the life of a Jew.
Usually marked at 13 for boys and 12 or
13 for girls — a Bat Mitzvah in that case — it marks the transition into
someone responsible for their actions.
Kristal was unable to celebrate his Bar
Mitzvah in 1916 because his mother had died three months earlier and his
father was a soldier in the Russian army at the time of World War I.
“My father is religious and has prayed every morning for 100 years, but he has never had his Bar Mitzvah,” his daughter said.
Around 100 family members will attend,
with the date and location being kept secret to avoid Kristal having to
contend with a crush of journalists, she said.
Asked about his health, Koperstoch said only: “He is ageing.”
After World War I, Kristal moved to Lodz where he worked in the family confectionary factory, married and had two children.
But his life was disrupted when the
Jewish quarter of the city became a ghetto under Nazi occupation during
World War II and Kristal was sent to the infamous Nazi death camp
Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Around 1.1 million people, most of them
European Jews, perished in the camp between 1940 and 1945 before it was
liberated by Soviet forces.
His wife and two children died but Kristal survived, weighing just 37 kilos (81 pounds) at the end of the war.
He then moved to Israel, where he has lived for over six decades. He re-married, had a son and opened a sweet shop.
He is four years younger than the
world’s oldest woman, Emma Morano, an Italian who turns 117 in November —
meaning she was born in the 19th century.
The previous oldest man, Yasutaro Koide of Japan, died in January at the age of 112.
Jeanne Louise Calment, who died in 1997,
was the oldest verified person ever — passing away in France aged 122
years and 164 days.

I’m not jealous of Davido’s success —B-Red
Bayo Adeleke, aka B-Red, is signed on with music label, HKN, and is also a cousin to multiple award-winning artiste, Davido.
Notwithstanding his average popularity in the industry, many music lovers have refused to acknowledge his talent. In fact, they are of the opinion that his days as an artiste are numbered. They are disappointed that his career has not assumed a different dimension in spite of Davido and HKN’s influence. Despite the view of many, the heavily-tattooed musician says he is happy where he is.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, down-to-earth and forthright B-Red, said he is happy at the pace of his growth.“Knowing that God has a plan for everybody, I am comfortable with the unhurried pace. There was a time I didn’t have a car or a Rolex, but look at me now. Every year, I grow and I will get bigger, so I am not in a rush. I am okay and content,” he said.
B-Red who has also been accused of living under Davido’s shadow said there is no shame in leveraging on the star power of his cousin.
He said, “In every group, you have a leader and I do not care about being number one as long as I am doing good, getting money and doing shows. Davido is number one and we follow but you never know, probably I’ll be as big as he is. If your cousin is a star, won’t you want to be a star too? I built my brand by hyping my cousin for four years and look at where I am now.”
B-Red who is busy promoting his new EP released under HKN titled, All The Way Up, also denied that leaving HKN. While rebutting the story, he confirmed he would be doing a collaboration with Maryokun, whom many insinuated that he is envious of.
“There is no beef between me and Maryokun, we are hitting the studio soon and doing something together, I didn’t leave HKN and I am not leaving HKN. I even have the HKN tattooed on my body. My contract is very long. HKN is family and I am not leaving,” he stressed.

Fresh $5m found in Patience Jonathan’s account
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has traced an additional $5m to the Skye Bank account of Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
This brings to $20m the total amount so far traced to the former first lady.
As part of investigations into a money laundering case against a former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Jonathan, Waripamowei Dudafa, the EFCC had traced four company accounts to him with a balance of $15m.
The EFCC subsequently charged Dudafa and the four companies with money laundering.
The four companies, whose accounts have since been frozen, are Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited, Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited, Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited and Globus Integrated Service Limited.
A source at the EFCC said, “While we were investigating Dudafa, we traced the four companies to him. The companies have domiciliary accounts at Skye Bank with a balance of about $15m. So, we obtained a court order and froze the accounts.
“We then traced the directors of the companies who then denied ownership of the accounts. It was later that we were informed that the accounts belonged to Patience Jonathan and that she is the sole signatory to the accounts. She was given a special card which she used in making withdrawals across the world.
“We, therefore, wondered why the accounts were not opened in her name if she had nothing to hide. In fact, we later found out that her personal account, which bears her name, has a balance of $5m. One wonders where a person, who has never held a government position, got the money from. She was not our initial target but she certainly has questions to answer.”
Jonathan’s wife has, however, sued Skye Bank for freezing her bank accounts and giving the EFCC vital information about her finances.
Patience filed a N200m fundamental rights enforcement suit against Skye Bank Plc.
One Sammie Somiari, who deposed to an affidavit on behalf of Patience, claimed that the EFCC placed a No Debit Order on the four accounts in July, in the course of probing Dudafa.
The EFCC has now filed an amended 17 counts against Dudafa and seven others, including the four companies, wherein the suspects were accused of conspiring to conceal $15,591,700, which the EFCC claimed they ought to have known formed part of proceeds of an unlawful act.
Somiari said in the affidavit filed on behalf of Patience, who is said to be away for an urgent medical treatment abroad, that it was Dudafa who helped Patience open the four bank accounts which the EFCC froze.
According to him, Dudafa had on March 22, 2010 brought two Skye Bank officers, Demola Bolodeoku and Dipo Oshodi, to meet Patience at home to open five accounts.
The deponent claimed that Patience was the sole signatory to the accounts.
He, however, claimed that after the five accounts were opened, Patience later discovered that Dudafa opened only one of the accounts in her name, while the other four were opened in the names of companies belonging to Dudafa.
Somiari added, “The applicant (Patience) complained about this to Dudafa, who at his prompting and instance promised to effect the change of the said accounts to the applicant’s name; and to effect this change, Dudafa brought the said bank manager, Mr. Dipo Oshodi, who was purported to have effected the changes. This was about April 2014.
“The applicant is not a director, shareholder or participant in the companies named in the aforementioned four accounts.
“The bank official, Mr. Dipo Oshodi, as it would appear, did not effect or reflect the instruction of the applicant to change the said accounts to her name(s) despite repeated requests of the applicant.
“Besides, the ATM credit cards bearing the said companies’ names were brought to the applicant by Mr. Dipo Oshodi of the second respondent bank, who promised to replace them once the cards bearing the changed names were available, but he never did.
“However, since 2010 up until 2014 and thereafter, the applicant had been using the cards on the said accounts and operating the said accounts without let or hindrance.
“Even in May, June and July 2016, the applicant travelled overseas for medical treatment and was using the said credit cards abroad up until July 7, 2016 or thereabout when the cards stopped functioning.”
In her fundamental rights suit, Patience is urging the court to compel the EFCC to immediately remove the No Debit Order placed on her accounts.
She also wants the court to order Skye Bank to pay her damages in the sum of N200m for what she termed a violation of her right to own personal property under Section 44 of the Constitution.
However, the EFCC is in moves to arraign Dudafa and his alleged accomplices for money laundering before a Federal High Court in Lagos.
Further proceedings in the case has been adjourned until September 15.
However, the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has said with the fresh admission by Patience that she owns the accounts, the EFCC has the right to probe her.
Sagay told one of our correspondents on the telephone that the Act establishing the EFCC gave the anti-graft agency the power to investigate anybody who is seen to have more wealth than he ought to have.
The senior advocate wondered how Patience, who was a civil servant and never held any government position, could have billions in her bank accounts.
He said, “The EFCC and ICPC Act have provisions under which they can ask the court to freeze the account of a person if a person’s capacity to earn is below the amount of money that the person appears to have.
“If you are living a lavish lifestyle and it appears you don’t have the means to have acquired the property and the wealth you have, the EFCC is free to probe you.
“If she is claiming the money belongs to her, she has put herself in a position where she must explain how she earned it.”
Attempts to get the comments of the wife of the former president were not successful.
Repeated calls and a text message sent to the Media Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Ikechukwu Eze, were also not responded to as of 8:45pm on Saturday.

YOUR VIEWS!!! This Mum Who Sleeps N3ked With Her 16-Year-Old Son Wants To Know If It Is Right Or Wrong ?
A mother who claims to still sleep naked next to her
16-year-old son has posted a plea online asking whether it’s normal –
and it led to quite the debate.
The woman posted the question anonymously on Q&A website Quora
, seemingly begging other parents for advice on whether she should
stop. She wrote: “Is it wrong for me (a mother) to sleep naked with my
16 year old son?”
But if she was seeking reassurance, she didn’t find it there.
More than one person questioned why she felt the need to sleep
next to her teenage son at all, let alone why she would do it naked.
One man, Christopher Richards, tried to give her the benefit of doubt
and wondered whether he had medical issues which call for her to sleep
in the same bed as him.
He wrote: “The initial reaction is, WHY do you need to sleep in
the same bed with your 16 year old son in YOUR home, does he have
medical issues?
“Do you only have one bedroom in the apartment? If that is the
case then you should be in single beds, albeit it the same room. Really
from the age of 10 a child should have their own bed, ideally bedroom
and not sleeping with their parent(s).

Product might cost N151 per litre soon
Petroleum marketers are agitating for the price of fuel to be increased to N151 per litre, according to reports.
They said the current price of N145 is not realistic because of the challenges in getting foreign currency, adding that the real cost of fuel should be N151.87k.
This is coming on the heels of reports that there are plans to increase the pump price of fuel soon.
Punch also reports that the marketers also called on the Federal Government to address the issue of the rising dollar, so they can sell fuel at the approved rate of N145.
To forestall any further drop in supply, reports say a stakeholders' meeting was held to deliberate on the issue.
Those in attendance were officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association and Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners.
An official who was at the meeting, said “Since the ex-depot price is around N133.5 per litre and the selling price is N145 litre, when you remove the ex-depot cost from the selling price, you’ll get about N12. Now, from this N12, consider the distribution margin and other costs from the depot; if all these costs are less than N12, then the marketers are making profits and there will be no complaint.
“But if the reverse is the case, then they have a complaint. I want you to find out what is the marketers’ margin, transporters’ margin, bridging fund, Petroleum Equalisation Fund, administrative charges and more. When you add all these together, you will realise that truly, the marketers are doing all they can to hold the pump price at the N145 per litre band.”
According to Punch, a ministry of petroleum source also said“The issue of forex has been a challenge to both the government and the oil marketers. All of a sudden, the dollar skyrocketed to about N400 and the product we are concerned with here is an international product. So, if they are bringing in the product by buying dollar at N350, then it is obvious that they are really working hard to remain in business.
“For if we are in a truly deregulated market environment, then the price of the product should have increased beyond N145 per litre; there is no doubt about that. Meanwhile, there was a highly confidential meeting between the management of the PPPRA and stakeholders in the sector on this matter.
Commuters stranded as BRT drivers protest delayed salaries
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) said it would leave no stone unturned to resolve the impasse between Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) drivers and their employer.
Commuters in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state were left stranded on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, due to the unavailability of the buses, due to a protest by drivers of the Rapid Transit (BRT) - a transport initiative of the Lagos state government.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) said it would leave no stone unturned to resolve the impasse between drivers and their employer.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the drivers on Tuesday downed tools to protest alleged delayed salary payment and unfavourable conditions of service.
The scheme, which provides bus services on a dedicated corridor or lane, is being operated by Primero Transport Services Limited.
Mr Iyiola Adegboye, LAMATA’s Acting Managing Director, who addressed the protesting drivers, said the agency was concerned about the possible impact of the strike on commuters.
"What we have done is to speak to the busmen and we have assured them that the state government is ready to listen to their demands,’’ he told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after addressing workers.
"We have invited their representatives for a meeting at which we would discuss the issues, look into their grievances and then see how we will address them.
"But we have asked them to go back to the road and we believe that they will comply with that,’’ he said.
Adegboye appealed to stranded commuters, especially residents of Ikorodu, asking them to bear with the government.
"What has happened is not something that was not expected.
"We appreciate the fact that they are going through a lot of pressure now but we want to ask that they should please bear with us.
"We are working assiduously to resolve the issues,’’ he said.

6 Interesting Yet Annoying Things About Nollywood Movies
Nollywood is the sobriquet for Nigeria’s film industry. The industry is currently witnessing a boom as it churns out new and exciting movies. So, there is little or no argument when it is described as the third largest movie industry in the world.
Now, a good number of Nigerians are watching Nollywood movies alongside Hollywood movies. At the same, they are visiting cinemas to watch these sterling movies made by prolific producers like Kunle Afolayan, Lancelot Imasuen, Emem Isong and Tunde Kelani, among others in locations like Lagos, Calabar, and Enugu.
Despite all these accolades, there is still a long way for these movies to go to compete favourably with Hollywood and Bollywood. This is because there are still some petty and trivial things that you see in these movies. This can easily put viewers off. In line with this, Jumia travel, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal identifies some of these annoying things.
Easily predictable
In some cases, the title of the movie will give you a fair idea of the plot. And if you decide to watch the movie, with 100% certainty you can tell what is happening next. Often times than not, Nigerians who watch Nollywood movies do not look forward to the climax and its resolution. Thus, due to this predictability, they easily lose interest.
Irrelevant sequels
You must have questioned why they are wasting so much time at a particular scene. The answer is that the producer wants the film to have a sequel. Definitely, you know that the movie doesn’t need one. But the thinking of the producer is different as the movie can have like 3 sequels with different titles.
No storyline or plot
Some Nollywood movies have no plot or storyline. It seems like they hurriedly gathered actors and actresses to just act a script that has no story. This leaves some Nigerian film enthusiasts to question why they wasted time watching the movie.
Some accident or shooting scenes are a write-off
Accident or shooting scenes in most Nollywood movies are a write-off. For those who are addicted to Hollywood and watch the same scene in a Nollywood film, you will be awed at the way the act is poorly done. This is a major scene that producers need to improve.
Terrible subtitles
Many Nigerians now watch indigenous language movies especially Yoruba movies. But one flaw about these movies is that it is poorly subtitled. So, the movie is restricted to those who can only fathom the language.
Too much witchcraft
Witchcraft has become one way to identify Nollywood movies and this not good for the image of the country. As a result, Many Nollywood enthusiasts frown at this very negative portrayal.

Popular South African Pastor Dies Following 30 Days Fasting to Beat Jesus Christ’s Record
In a determined bid to break the record set by Jesus Christ of Nazareth, a 44-year-old popular South African pastor, Alfred Ndlovu, has died of malnutrition following a dry fasting that lasted for 30 days.
According to Buzz South Africa, the cleric left home on June 17 for a nearby bush to have prayers just like Jesus did in an attempt to equal or break Jesus Christ’s record of fasting for 40 days, but died just a month despite having no history of illness.
It was learnt that the pastor was alone in the wilderness and his body was found by a stranger who then called on his family, congragation and the police.
He was known by his family and community at large as a very spiritual person whose faith could move mountains and his death surprised everyone, even church members.
A close relative said: “He was a very spiritual man. Its unfortunate he had to die this way. After a month we got the sad news of his death. Pastor was a healthy and religious old man who did not even look his age.”

Is The Nigeria Police Truly Your Friend? See What Happened To This Young Man
I just want you all to know how terrified and unhappy I am about the extent of decay in the Nigerian police system.
I left my residence today at about 12.30pm with the aim of buying a trouser and a pack of bathing soaps. Boarded a local bus which dropped me at the popular “Orisumbare” market.
I crossed to the other side to check the roadside boutiques for the trouser. Just about getting there, I noticed three policemen pointing at me from their van. They beckoned me over and I obeyed.
There were four policemen in the van. Three were armed. Only the driver wasn’t.
The policeman at the front seat next to the driver asked for my name which I gave.”What do you do? “He further questioned.”I’m a student at LAUTECH” I replied. He then asked for my identification card and when I told him I wasn’t with it, I could see the delight etched on his face ! “Why aren’t you with your identification card?” He asked,in a rather harsh tone. “I just wanted to get something quickly sir” I replied.
He then ordered me to enter the police van. I hesitated for a moment but when I saw a policeman at the back of the van raising his gun, I complied.
They collected my phones and began to search me abusively. They stopped when they could not find anything incriminating. The policeman in the front seat, apparently the leader of the police team asked me to unlock my phone and I told him it wasn’t locked(he could not operate a Nokia XL!)
I helped him get through to the gallery where he wanted to go to( reason? I don’t know).
After checking for a while, he turned back and shouted at me “you’re a yahoo boy”, “dating ni onshe (i.e dating is what you do)“. I was amazed by these false accusations and replied “No sir, I am not a yahoo boy”. He then began to shout again. “You think I’m a fool? Ode loh pemi(you think am stupid)?”.
The policeman by my right then tapped my feet and whispered “oga nah gentle man, make hin no vex, tell am say you be yahoo boy”. At this point, my heart saddened, respect crushed. Did he just say that? I wondered.
They drove into a nearby garage and asked why I had white people’s pictures on my phone. I told him i work for a blog, where I talk about fashion and those “white people(models)” were wearing clothes I’d written about. He said “blog”? He did not know what a blog was. When I realized his level of illiteracy as he did not understand, I kept quiet and they drove off saying they were taking me to the “station”. At this point, they had taken every means I could use in communicating for help.
They stopped when they saw another young guy on a bike. They stopped him and brought him into the van asking him the same set of questions I was asked earlier before driving off again. They stopped at an area I couldn’t quite recognize but it was full of “shouting thugs”. I was amazed again when I saw policemen hailing people I presume are thugs because of their looks, appearances and mannerisms.
The three policemen went out of the police van with the other guy leaving behind me and the driver. At this point, I was terribly afraid and started begging the driver “please sir, I swear, I’m not a yahoo boy”. He replied “don’t worry. He would leave you if he doesn’t find any incriminating evidence”. A reply I was very much happy with.
The leader of the police team entered the van and started questioning me again, this time threatening to use “juju” on me if I didn’t confess, I was scared !!!
“You are stingy, stingy yahoo boy” he said. They all entered and the leader of the police team told the driver to drive straight to the “station” but I was surprised when they stopped in front of a “joint”.
At the sight of another young man, they shouted “you, ole(thief)” ! The boy, scared at this point, ran for his dear life. He was chased and caught. They dragged him to the police van and started accusing him. “You’re a thief ! why did you run?”, You’re a cultist they alleged when they saw a tattoo on his body. Few people gathered already to watch the scene.
The leader of the police team ordered me to get down from the police van then narrated a story about how he had caught yahoo boys and people involved in cyber crimes. “I jazzed one boy when he didn’t co-operate and he came back to beg me after 4 months” he said.
He left me and asked one of the other two policemen to “talk” to me( ie to get money from me). I told him “sir,I am not a yahoo boy” and “I dont have any money on me”. They left me alone after noticing I was of no good to them. I had to trek out of the unknown zone with people staring at me as if I was “a boko haram member”.
With this very shocking harrowing experience as a young Nigerian, my heart bleeds for Nigeria and for our police. Do the youths stand a chance to walk freely in our country without fear of molestation?
I wonder how many other harmless civilians this would have happened to. Some jailed for no reason, some maybe killed. Let us stand up and say NO to this vile act. How can we live in a society where policemen are terrors to the lives they are meant to be protecting?

Robbers attack passengers in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway gridlock
Robbers have cashed in on the unending gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with many motorists and passengers being dispossessed of their valuables.
Motorists, who spoke with PUNCH Metro, said gunmen attacked them as the gridlock intensified due to the rehabilitation of the road by Julius Berger Plc.
Some victims said the robbers attacked Lagos-bound vehicles held up in the traffic and stole phones and money, among other valuables.
A motorist, Aborishade Osanyin, said the hoodlums operated at about 8pm on Sunday.
He said, “They targeted exotic cars in the traffic. They harassed the owners and collected their valuables.
“The robbers are suspected to be hoodlums hiding under the Kara Bridge. Some motorists managed to reach the police, but the robbers had a field day for about 20 minutes.”
A commuter, who did not identify himself, described how the robbers operated.
“Some of them wore masks and had guns. They took the side of the long bridge where Julius Berger is rehabilitating and attacked vehicles in the gridlock. They shot into the air as they moved from one vehicle to the other. It was scary; some people jumped out of their vehicles and ran away,” he said.
The commuter said when policemen, who had received information on the robbery, arrived at the scene, they started shooting into the air to scare off the robbers.
He said the hoodlums escaped into the surrounding bushes.
It was learnt that policemen attached to the Warewa Police Division, Ogun State, and the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, and the Isheri Police Division, Lagos State, responded to the situation.
A policeman in the team told PUNCH Metro that no arrest was made.
He said, “The hoodlums have hideouts in the area. When they sighted the police patrol vehicles, they took to their heels. The most important thing was to stop the robbery, which we did. We were able to assure the motorists driving into Lagos that the robbers had fled and that they were safe.”
Similarly on Tuesday, the robbers were said to have blocked the Multichoice end of the expressway attacking motorists in the resultant gridlock.
The Commander, RRS, ACP Olatunji Disu, said the police dislodged the robbers on Sunday.
He said, “The RRS patrol team and the Isheri division went after the robbers. We were able to dislodge them.”
Meanwhile, Julius Berger Plc, the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Mowe Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps have started work on alternative roads to decongest gridlock on the expressway.
One of the alternative routes, which had been made available for use, opened up from the Warewa end to the Kara end of the expressway.
The FRSC Mowe Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, said the alternative roads would be accessible to only cars while heavy-duty trucks would use the expressway.
One of our correspondents, who visited Warewa around 2pm on Monday, observed that motorists had been plying the alternative route to link the Berger area of Lagos.
A motorist, Joseph Adewale, while commending the initiative, called on the contractor to speed up work on the expressway.
He said, “For the past six weeks, the expressway has been a nightmare because of the gridlock. At about 9pm on Sunday when I was returning from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, there was traffic on the long bridge. I spent almost two hours there. With this alternative route, I hope the traffic will ease. The construction on the expressway should be completed on time.”
Another driver, Simeon Peter, appealed to the FRSC to be at the spot at all times to ensure order on the road.
“If there is no one to control the traffic, the aim of providing this alternative will be defeated,” he added.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the RCCG created two alternative routes at the Ibafo, Ogun State end of the expressway to ensure a free flow of vehicular movement.
One of the church’s engineers working on the road, Mr. Abioye Olujimi, said a barrier would be mounted at the entrance of the road to prevent trucks.
He said, “We are 95 per cent through with the routes. What remains now is to spread asphalt on it. Over 2,000 vehicles had used the roads today and I assure you that the expressway will soon be free. The alternative roads are strictly for small vehicles, while heavy-duty trucks will use the bridge.
“There is going to be a barrier across the roads to prevent trucks from coming in. We are through with the black spots at Car Park C and NASFAT. We are also working on the ones at Mountain Top and in front of Ara Hall in Ibafo. We want to evacuate about two-third of the vehicles on the expressway through these alternative routes.”
The FRSC, Mowe Unit Commander, Ogunjobi, urged motorists to avoid driving against traffic.
He said his men would always be on the ground to ensure smooth flow of traffic, adding that any motorist caught violating traffic law would be dealt with.
He said, “Small vehicles are advised to use the alternative roads. No motorist should drive against the traffic. Whoever is caught will be prosecuted. The violators will be made to undergo psychiatric tests because no normal person will drive against the traffic. FRSC officials will be on the ground to enforce compliance.”
Efforts to speak with Julius Berger were abortive as of the time of filing this report on Tuesday.
